An Adventure in Sri-Lanka that you and the elephants won’t forget!
We are located at an airport just outside the capital city of Colombo. Excitement is in the air. We begin our journey towards The Surf Hotel. We are immediately served with brunch. Our driver tells us that he has already eaten and he takes a short break.
The Surf Hotel is situated in Pitaramba just a short walk from Bentota beach. The rooms at the hotel have a wide ocean view. There is a large out-door swimming pool facility, air-conditioning, free wi-fi, flat-screen TV and a choice between a large balcony or fully furnished terrace. We are all impressed.
The hotel restaurant serves dishes inspired from all corners of the world. We start every morning with a generous breakfast buffet.
We commence the afternoon with a conference. Some of us decide to take a dip in the pool before dinner, whilst others plunge directly into the ocean. For dinner, we are served with foods directly from the grill. The weather in the evening is so perfect that we decide to eat out on the lawn with the ocean view as our background.
We start the day with a delicious breakfast buffet at the hotel and then we begin our activities for the day. Participants can choose between snorkelling or diving. Those of us that are more adventurous decide to take surf lessons. Hopefully they will be able to make their way back to shore in time for the conference.
The surfers arrive back in time for lunch and then we get to work. We effectively brainstorm and exchange ideas.
Before dinner we decide to take a short walk and when we arrive back to the hotel dinner awaits. We are greeted by three chefs who are preparing a la carte seafood right before our eyes. It doesn’t get fresher than this. There is everything from lobsters, octopus, tuna fish and prawns just to name a few.
We wake up looking out into the deep blue ocean, it looks so inviting. We check out of the hotel but not before enjoying breakfast.
Today, all the participants go out on a safari in Uda Walawe national park. The national park is located in between the district of Ratnapura and Monaragal which is famous for its wildlife. Here you will find large herds of elephants, water buffalos, foxes, crocodiles and monkeys. We drive around in jeeps and our guide for the day tells us about the park and its wildlife.
Tonight, we spend the evening at a safari camp that is built in the park. We enjoy a wonderful dinner beneath the stars and the shimmering sky. The stars seem to shine brighter here. Our guide tells us that the curious elephants like to stop by at times.
After breakfast, we hop onto a bus that takes us to Kitulgala, our next adventure. Kitulgala is a small city located on the west-side of Sri Lanka known for its rainforests. This is our starting point for us to go white water rafting. The picturesque Kelani river is made up of five major rapids and four smaller rapids. The entire stretch is five kilometers long. We all agree that we will never forget the enchanting surroundings of the river.
We enjoy lunch before heading back to civilisation in Colombo. We check in at the Ozo Hotel and the ocean view here is nothing short of amazing. We enjoy a lovely last dinner together with all the participants. The entire dining room is perfectly set for us. After dinner, some of us decide to go out into the capital city which is only a few steps away from the hotel.
Today we have some free time to ourselves to enjoy in Colombo. The hotel recommends us a guided tour of Colombo. Later in the afternoon when we arrive back at the hotel there is a bus waiting to take us to the airport. Behind us we leave five days of adventures that will be forever apart of us.
